"I thought I had an outside chance," Jones said. "I never dreamed that would be enough for a victory, based on what had been caught the first two days." In the end, no one else's catches could keep up with Jones'. In his 11th Classic, the Waco, Texas, pro came back from 10th place on Day One to claim the $500,000 top prize in the biggest event in bass fishing Read More Trackback(0)

Congratulations!
What a wonderful blessing for you and your family! Don't know if you remember me but I am the lady who sat beside you on the plane from Dallas to Ontario last month. I just read the Heaven book that you recommended and it is fabulous...Just wanted to thank you for telling me about it. I bought one for my daughter in law too and she is enjoying it as well. I enjoyed meeting you and our conversation. Thank you for your prayers for my visit there. It was great! Congratulations again on your title. Enjoy! Donna report abuse

Hello Alton (The Jig) Jones, Man, Debbie and I are sooo excited for you. I've watched/recorded every ESPN/Bass Master Classic telecast and been in tears each time as I'm personally very happy for you and your family - looking back at all the times we fished together when you were beginning your Pro fishing career. Remember I nick named you Alton - The Jig - Jones as you fished a jig constantly and when I saw you were on a strong Jig pattern - man, great memories came back to me and I knew you would win. We laughed, had fun and learned a lot -I have taught my son, Kyle, - now 19 and at Baylor- how to fish from all the things you taught me. Technology is great and I keep up with you and the tournaments monthly.
One more thing - last Sunday 2/24 - as I was going to Church - I could see/feel the prayers flowing throughout Waco for you. Tell the family hello from us. Hope to see you soon. Shoot me an e-mail when you get a chance. God Bless Wally (Willow) Williams 254 495-4381 report abuse

Greetings from California! Wow! Way to go, Alton. I was excited to see you in the lead going into day 3 but didn't have chance to turn on the computer until late Sunday and the yell I let out scared my wife to death. I am so thrilled for you success but what is most impressive to me is you great testimony for our Lord and Savior. I have been following you guys since the Duel on the Delta last March and was so exited to see you succeed in the Classic. I was also excited to see Cliff finish second. Greet him for me as well as the others (James and Lee, etc). I hope the FCA is still going strong. I was sad to see that the Elite Series is not returning to West coast this year. Hopefully it will get back here before too long and we can get together.

Alton,
Congrats!!! I had the pleasure of meeting you and your family in Gallatin, TN at a FLW tourney on Old Hickory Lake in 2005 or 2006. I thought it was awesome how you took time while fishing the Classic to stop and teach to the camera while others would be hiding baits and tactics from the camera. You have been a wonderful witness to the bass community for a long time and now you have an even larger platform to work from. P.S. You better win all you can before Alton Jr. takes over!!! HOW AWESOME! Alton, the only thing that would have made the classic any better is if Jim and I had been there with you. We are so happy for you. Tell Jimmye Sue, Alton Jr., Kristin and Jamie hello for us.
Cannot wait to see ya'll. God's Blessings, Jim & Sarah Fielding report abuse

The best thing about seeing your Classic win from my St. Louis home, was not the jumping up and down we were all doing, or the tears, but it was my 5-year-old son saying "Daddy, I'm so glad Alton won because he has the best sportsmanship."
Thank you for your faith and courage and the role model you are to kids. God bless, Paul Guyot report abuse

Congratulations,
I did'nt know much about you untill I read your blog. I don't think there could be a better winner of the classic than you. My wife and I were at the classic for the first time and it was fantastic. She says I'm a bass-a-holic also. But the Lord Jesus always comes first in my life. I was so thankfull to see a Christian win this tournament. What a great opportuniy to witness to thousands of lost people. You will be a role model for my grandsons and me too. I retired a few years ago and try to go bass fishing whenever weather permits. I used to fish club tournaments back in the mid seventys, but now its for pleasure only. Again I want to congradulate you for the win and may the Lord bless you and your family now and in the future. Alton,
I love to fish the Central Texas Lakes for fun with my wife. I seen to have difficulty when fishing Lake Aquilla for some reason and I know it may hold the next State Record Bass. I knoq you used to guide on Aquilla back in the 1980's, do you have any pointers, locations and baits that will produce over 18" fish at Aquilla that you will share? Thanks and again Congradulations Ronny report abuse

Alton - I'm from Port Angeles, Washington and there are bass up here. Congrads on your big win - a classic win for a "class act" guy. When I saw your standing at the end of day two, I told my wife, Linda, this guy is going to win this thing and I know of no one else I rather see win it! You may think I'm a yankee, but all my relatives live in WACO, Texas!
